Language translation is built into the current CVS version of Fire.  If 
you download the source code and build your own copy of Fire, you will 
have the language translation ability.

One (minor) correction to Matt's explanation:  The local language, by 
default, is determined by the localization you're currently running 
under.  If you're running OS X in Spanish, the default local language is 
Spanish, so you only have to set the remote language to German to have a 
Spanish-German conversation.

This will be a standard feature in Fire 0.29.a.
