All,

The Fire team (Me, Colter, Matthew, Theo, Chris and all those others
involved) have released the latest and greatest into the wild.

I wanted you all to be the first to know.

You can get to it via epicware.com

http://www.epicware.com/fire.html

If you are using a version you built out of cvs, there are no
differences except that the Profanity Filter menu item is gone and the
language support has been removed.

Some notes on this version are below ...

We thank you for all of your patience.

I'm sure links will appear on tucows and versiontracker later today.

Eric

Major Changes since 0.28.b
--------------------------

- Localizations removed (they fell behind and couldn't catch up with the
rapid updates)
- GPG support for sending and receiving signed and encrypted instant
messages.
- Full fledged ICQ Support again - stolen directly from ICY Juice.
Thanks :-)
- New configurable toolbar support
- UI cleanup
- Automatic translation of instant messages. Send in English - they can
recieve in Spanish, etc. and vice versa
- Integrated help File
- Completely new preference panels
- This version requires OS X 10.1

0.29.b
------
- Still no localizations other than English.

Application
-----------
- Added Connect All, Disconnect All and Service connections to the
Services menus (thanks Marc)
- Added code contributed by others for buddy list control (hitting enter
on th list now opens a new window, etc.)
- Removed the old .snd sound files and replaced them with smaller, nicer
mp3 files
- Smileys are no longer placed in the middle of strings.
- Service-specific smiley parsing and menus.
- The Fire-doesn't-save-my-buddies issue has been fixed.
- Profile panel will open when CustomIdentify has not been set
- GPG support for sending and receiving signed and encrypted instant
messages.
- Buddy Editor is better laid out.
- Customizable chat window colors.
- You can show buddy log on/off in chat windows.
- The checkboxes (and the huge chat list button) in the toolbar are now
regular toolbar items.
- Toggle Chat List and Mute now work when they're in the toolbar
overflow menu.

firetalk

- Support for DCC. (Just the backend -- it's not tied into the gui yet.)
- Lots of little bug fixes, including the duplicate name issue.

Services
--------

YAHOO

- You can now get info on yahoo users

irc

- Support for irc passwords for registered nicks.
- Return and Enter can be configured to send actions instead of messages.
- Private chat actions work now.
- Doesn't show everybody entering the room when you're the one who
entered.

ICQ

- Preferences are now remembered correctly.

MSN

- Fire will now display "Someone is typing" notifications.
- Should now notice when a buddy's status goes back to normal.

0.29.a
------

Source Code
-----------

NOTE: Before you can build Fire from this source, you will need to copy
bastring.h from the ICQ directory to the
/usr/include/gcc/darwin/2.95.2/g++ directory.

Services
--------

AIM

- Fire now uses ISOLatin1 encoding for strings sent in AIM (and ICQ if
so desired). This should enable non-English text characters (, etc.)
in AIM.
- Newlines are stripped from the end of incoming messsages. This should
improve the multi-line spacing when you're talking with the OS X AOL AIM
client.

irc

- Supports limited text markup.
- Channel ops are red instead of bold.
- Fire now notices +/- voice.
- People changing nicks shouldn't cause random windows to pop up anymore.
- Context menus for user icons.

ICQ

- Completely new ICQ stack based off of libicq2000. I am blatantly
stealing the code from Icy Juice and modifying it for my own purposes.
Ahh the beauty of the GPL.
- Buddy info works again.
- Messages work again.
- Authorization works again.
- Offline messages work again.

Application
-----------
- The chat windows now use an NSToolbar (configurable) for all the
buttons, thereby making the windows a lot smaller.
- The preferences have been completely redone
- URLs are now hyperlinks in the chat window

- Automatic, inline foreign language translation. Be aware of the
following issues:
   - The translation is not perfect.
   - The translation is not perfect. (This is not an accidentally
repeated line.)
   - The translation is not perfect, but it should be close enough to get
the point across.

- If you have return set up as a "send" key, Sh-Return will not send the
IM and instead will insert a carriage-return.
- If you press "Esc" while you are typing an IM, the IM will clear
itself out.
(Thanks to Jason Townsend for these)
- Improved sizing of the online buddies dot.
- The dot can now be hidden if no buddies are online.
- New notification windows
(Thanks to Jonathan McGuire for these)
- Smiley placement popup menu for the toolbar.
- In the Buddy Editor, the Groups popup is now sorted. This should
make "** Default Group **" the default group. (Or if you're editing a
current buddy, whatever group they're in.
- Raphael Ho added in the service icon as part of the user's title bar.
- Fire's application support files are now located in
~/Library/Application Support/Fire
   - The first time Fire launches, it will check for ~/Library/Fire. If
it is found,
Fire will try to move that folder to ~/Library/Application
Support/Fire. If
the move is successful, you won't see anything. Fire will only
notify you if
the move fails. If it fails, check for the before and after
locations and let
me know what you have -- [EMAIL PROTECTED]
This also means that you will NOT be able to go back to an older
version of Fire once you upgrade without
moving the files back by hand.
- Fire will use the IM account name instead of your OS X account name in
chat windows
- You can IM any user, not just those on your buddy list (Services->IM
to Other)
- Mail alerts can now take you to the mail site for that service.
   - Strange behavior, let me know -- [EMAIL PROTECTED]
- You can now do private conversations with chat users by double
clicking on their chat windows.
- Fire now has an integrated help file (English only)
- Fixed the no-sound-by-default bug.
- Completely new preference panels
- Group chats have user icons
