My main rule is frequently (weekly?) backup the Fire folder in
~/Library/Application Support and the Fire preferences in
~/Library/Preferences. On my machine I have 3 copies of Fire. I have
Fire.lastrelease which is the last actual release, Fire which is my current
build, and Fire.old which was the last stable build I've compiled.
