I also have experienced weirdness as of late with Fire and MSN.
Several weeks ago, Fire was giving me the Spinning Rainbow
Cursor of Doom when I tried to send a message to an MSN buddy.
It no longer does this, but now it occasionally crashes on
startup (fairly repeatably, within a period of time), but only
when MSN is set to log on at startup.
FYI Trillian (a windows analogue of Fire) exhibits similar
symptoms (crashing when MSN does certain things)...
