In fire pre-0.30 the buddy list could dock to the bottom of the screen,
even with the dock on the bottom, at least assuming there was room. I
keep my dock small enough so I can put stuff on either side, and now it
won't dock to the bottom-right (or left) corner of the screen but rather
leaves enough room for the dock.
