Sorry to bog down the list with this, but I am REALLY confused about
what's going on!
I have Fire (3.1 release) on two different Macs; a G4/800 DP, and a
TiBook/400. On the TiBook (my work machine) Fire works perfectly with any
and all services. On my G4/800 DP, AIM always gives me an error of "Bad
user name or password" when trying to connect.
I have brought my TiBook home, and it continues to connect to AIM, even
over the same connection/firewall that my tower uses.
Adium works fine on the G4/800, but Proteus does not. Weird.
>From this, I've determined it's not a network problem.
As of version 3.0b, AIM was working fine with Fire. Indeed, for about a
day after updating to 3.1, AIM worked fine, but then it suddenly began
getting these errors.
I downloaded v. 3.0b again and tried connecting, same problems. (Even
under the fresh new user.)
It doesn't seem to be a problem with the new version.
I have deleted /System and the various /Mach... files from my G4/800 and
reinstalled 10.1.5 from scratch -- a whole new system with nothign left
over from the old one. I then created a new user, so as to ensure there
was no old library stuff messing things up. Even under these
circumstances, Fire gets a "bad user name or password" when connecting to AIM.
It appears it is not a system problem.
I can pull down TCP/IP packets from Ethereal and see nothing particularly
weird.
What could be causing this problem?! It's driving me nuts!!!
Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. I just can't
figure this thing out!
