Agreed, especially now that UTF8 is available well supported
on Firebird.  Mainly I wanted to be clear on this sort of thing
with regard to IBObjects (and also some C++ work that I do). An
interface library like this needs to do approximately the right
thing even when the user chooses a character set of NONE.
