Well, with a bit more google'ing I think I have found some additional info: https://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/sourceforge/wiki/SVN%20adminrepo#ImportingfromotherreposincludingotherSCMs but it looks like that mostly assumes starting a new repository, while the Firebird subversion repository of course already contains things.
