Mine is slightly better than zero. I quite like git and subversion, but 
they are completely different beasts. Git has the advantage that I can 
do work and commit stuff even though my internet connection is down. 
Everything happens locally and my local repository has a full history too.

When I next get the internet back up, I can push my committed changes 
back to the main repository. Or, depending on how it was set up, issue a 
pull request to the repository administrator(s).

I don't know this. There are tools to migrate Subversion, for example, 
that I know of. I don';t know of a CVS one nor whether the history comes 
too.

I think a V3 branch in the existing repository is probably the best 
idea. We can (I assume) copy the existing docs into the V3 and then edit 
them to be more V3 specific?
