Thought I'd pass this along even though it's not clear what happened.
Maybe someone else has the full answer!
Anyone having trouble installing and using the FB provider should check
the machine.config file for illegal characters.
This happened to myself and a friend that installed it. He thinks it
happens when editing the file in Notepad...I'm not sure.
The attached shows an obvious example from my machine in Wordpad at:

The symptoms are strange and hard to trace!
Make a safe copy before you install, edit it.
