Yep, I made sure I followed the steps from that document closely.
I have also, since the last message, uninstalled 2.1.0 release and installed 2.5.0 Alpha 2 instead, and started changing values again to match the 2.5.0 Provider details instead.
The error still persists, so I thought I would gather and detail a little additional information for you:
1) GacUtil reports this:

2) The FirebirdSql assembly does appear in the Windows Explorer view of Global Assemblies. Sadly I have had to remove this image, due to size restrictions on the posting.
3) Visual Studio 2008 isn't listing the FirebirdSql assembly when I tried to add a reference to it to the associated project. Again, removed this image due to size restrictions on posting. However, this listing should contain it between "extensibility, version 7.0.3300.0" and "IEExecRemote, version 2.0.0.0" but it isn't actually in the list of .NET References.
4) The error still occurs in VS2008. I have included a copy of the machine.config for your reference, but I belive is correctly configured.
5) I inspected the registry to make sure the values listed in there match those given in the modified .reg file that I used, and they do. The reg file I used is attached, for reference, in the zip file.
I did notice that it differs from other provider assembly definitions, and also lacks DefaultProvider reference found in the root of other DataSource references. Might this be an issue at all?
I look forward to hearing further, and being able to provide any extra information I can to help with regards this issue.
