You are probably using a Firebird 2.5 or earlier client library to connect, which means it doesn't support wire encryption, and as that is required by default, the connection is rejected (I thought it gave a different error though, and I can't test it right now). You either need to replace fbclient with the one for 3.0, or you need to configure Firebird 3 to use the legacy authentication.
