Thanks for the tip. I've saved it for future reference. I didn't change my profile yet because I think I stumbled upon the solution. I was using Firefox to inspect vs. debug -- in a new window (you see, I just didn't have the heart to do an about face to IE). A panel asked me whether I wanted to allow 3 things, with checkboxes:
__ Scripting __ Console logging __ something else During initial upgrade to Firebug, when I was notified there was a new version, and upon subsequent regular use, I don't believe it ever prompted me for these 3 settings. However, after a fresh re-install from nothing it did prompt me for these. At the time I only check- marked "Scripting." This time I checked all three. I am now able to use the new watch expression field.
