Evidently Gmail is hitting a breakpoint but the Firebug UI is not
responding to it. I tried break on next in gmail and it worked fine
for me.
I think you have a problem in your installation, perhaps some
conflicting extension. I suggest you install Firebug in a new Firefox
profile.

I think disabling the icon in panels other than script for now is a
better solution. In 1.5 the break on next will have panel-dependent
function.

The flashlight is what we have. We did not have the luxury of
specifying an icon.

All of the buttons you mention have tooltips. If you don't see them,
again I wonder if your profile is messed up.
