The default behavior of window tool kits for say 20 years have the
upper right [X] close the application, not minimize it. More recently
some applications don't exit.

I read all of the posts about the behavior of the upper right corner
button. No existing set of applications is exactly like Firebug of
course. But there is no universal behavior as you keep claiming.
Rather some apps exit, some do not.  Since we have several ways to
minimize and the current off button is good enough we are going to
leave it, even if it makes you unhappy, sorry.  Let's move on.
