I guess the problem is just Firefox noticing that it needs to rebuild
its index files.

You can also try deleting these files in your profile:
extensions.rdf
extensions.cache
compreg.dat
xpti.dat
Firefox will rebuild them next run. I usually immediately exit and
restart so I can see the OS console.
