I'm having the same issues. I'm trying to reproduce exactly when/what firebug stops opening but no luck so far.
I've reset all my firebug options, disabled all other extensions. Uninstalled firebug beta 8 and reinstalled beta 7 that I didn't have any problems with before. Now I have the same problems with beta 7. When is the next beta coming out? How do I make a new Firefox profile? What kind of information will I lose by switching to a new profile?
