Because it does not and cannot edit HTML. What Firebug does do is show you what the page would look like IF the HTML were edited. But the wording on FB's site (i.e. http://getfirebug.com/html and elsewhere) state incorrectly that FB actually edits the HTML files. Again, it does not. It shows you what the page would look like if those files were to be edited. The editing of which is in fact something FB is wholly incapable of doing.
