I was also frustrated not being able to use keyboard shortcuts to edit in Gmail like I usually do...I've removed Firebug, since it was the easiest thing and I rarely used it, but I'll keep the fix in mind if I ever decide I need it again. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
