I was not able to reproduce your experience.

My first guess is that this problem is not related to Firebug or
HTML5. Here's how you can know for sure:
1) Jot down some notes on the steps you need to take to create the
problem,
2) create a new Firefox profile, install firebug, try your steps.
If you still have the problem, open a bug report with your steps.
If not, then something in your normal profile (Firefox speak for
configuration settings) is the source. Commonly this will be another
extension that is not up to date.
