hello. i´ve come across this problem on the latest firebug (1.6.2), had to reinstall OS (win XP) so i downloaded it all again, the problem (as it seems to have been solved) was an extension called "FriendlyBug", i dunno for sure, i had many other extensions and i was disabling one by one and try again until i disabled firebug i could type again.
