When you install Firefox, it installs in two places. Firefox itself
installs in the programs directory (on Windows, \Program Files\Mozilla
Firefox). User data, such as your preferences, bookmarks and
installed addons go in a profile directory created by the
installation. Under Windows, this is created under the \Documents and
Settings\<userid>\Local Settings\ hierarchy. (for 2K/XP. Vista/Win7
use a different location.)

It's possible for the profile to get corrupted with odd effects in
Firefox or extensions resulting. One test is to create a fresh
profile.

If you invoke Firefox with the -p command line parameter, as in
"firefox.exe -p", it will start in ProfileManager mode. From
ProfileManager, you can create a new profile, rename an existing one,
or delete an existing one. You can also specify where the profile
directory is created. I don't care for the default location of
profiles used by Mozilla, so I use this to create them under
\Mozilla\Profiles\<product>\<version>\<ProfileName>

If you have more than one profile, you can specify with Firefox should
use with "firefox, exe -p <ProfileName>" I have an assortment of
custom shortcuts to do things like that.
