Hi,
Sorry for the delay, I did not have time to try the solution until
now.
I managed to create a new user profile (and deleted the previous).
I installed the latest version of firebug (1.7.1) and now it works.
However, I actually did not install it trough the Firefox add-on
manager,
because it failed to download the addon. Instead I manually navigated
to the xpi file and installed it.

Thanks for the advice.
