I can't reproduce that behavior on my machine. 1) Do you have any other extension (that could cause a collision with Firebug) installed? 2)If you create a new Firefox profile with Firebug only installed, does the problem still persist?
If #2 helps, do you see any differences between the two profiles (e.g. in prefs.js file) ?
