Just a little additional hint: Linux can be very restrictive sometimes, so make sure you have writing rights on your profile folder and the *extensions * folder under it. You can open the profile folder via *Firefox menu > Help > Troubleshooting Information > Open Containing Folder*. If that's not helping, please regard the steps in Honza's comment.
