It now works. I do not know why. Maybe, another restart of Firefox helped. Although, Firefox did an automatic restart after installing the add- on. In the meantime I also installed the "Web Developer" add-on. But I expect that there is no correlation with the "Web Developer" add- on and the script debugging with Firebug.
