Do you have any other extensions installed? E.g. FireQuery 1.4.1 is known to cause problems <https://groups.google.com/d/topic/firebug/lNuGov5VTqo/discussion> on current versions of Firefox. If it's not FireQuery, you may investigate further by following the steps on the first aid page <http://getfirebug.com/firstaid#To_understand_the_problem_so_it_can_be_fixed> .
