Just to clarify things a bit more, what you want to install is called Firebug *Lite* <https://getfirebug.com/firebuglite>, which is not Firebug and is not maintained anymore for several years now. Also Firebug (the Firefox extension) is not developed anymore <https://hacks.mozilla.org/2016/12/firebug-lives-on-in-firefox-devtools/> and rather the Firefox built-in DevTools are pushed instead. Your option in both Chrome and in current Firefox builds is to use the > browser's built in developer tools.
