A firewall and an operating system (OS) are different things.

The reason why you never see Gauntlet and Firewall-1 together is they
are different kinds of firewalls.  As you know, one is a proxy style
firewall and the other uses stateful inspection.  Which one you need
depends completely on how you will use the firewall.

For me, and the needs of my company (Brooks Fiber then), Checkpoint's
Firewall-1 fulfilled the requirements best.  I found it easy to
configure, and easy to maintain.  What you might consider is doing a
demo of each firewall package for a couple weeks.  That way you'll have
real world experience with how each one works, and which one satisfies
your security requirements.  Good luck on your quest.
