Yes, you can..... The advantages are many! First you can filter the
email pretty easy and prevent relay. Second you can use it to filter email
between multiple domains. Third you can scrub virues with it(If you
purchase a third party virus software. Like Norton Virus for Firewalls.)
Fourth you can use it to restrict the size of emails.
It's pretty easy to setup and the logging it provides is nice.
