These methods are really not extremely secure.. (dns spoofing); but they can
be used to "slow down" things......

The problem with *.earthlink.net is that earthlink uses dialups from other
backbone providers. (uu.net, psi.net, wcom.net,level3.net) that makes it
harder to control.

Not sure about which *nix you are using. Linux can do it without any extra
items.

Check into the /etc/usertty file. The instructions for what to put in it are
in the linux login man page... under the heading "SPECIAL ACCRESS
RESTRICTIONS"

BTW... no matter what, you should be logging in through ssh or some other
encrypted login; especially at a .edu where physical access to the "wire" is
harder to restrict.
