It definatley existed with 3.0b. You also have to bear in mind I am
speaking specifically about the Nokia platform. That is the only platform
that provides this as an out-of-the-box feature as far as I know. On the
Sun platform you have to by something like Stonebeat for this
functionality.
It should be obvious by now I am a huge Nokia Firewall-1 fan. You get
none of the overhead considered with hardening the OS yourself, you get
throughput comparable to (if not superior) the other Unix platforms, and
it's on X86 hardware making it a hell of a lot cheaper. OH, and the
default IP400 series config comes with a 4 port 10/100 NIC. The IP650
rates at 120Mb throughput and has all the 400 series stuff, but
redundantly.
