Let me disagree with your position. First place, I own a company that has
supplied services (including the development of mission critic software for
telephone billing and trouble ticketing for large telephone companies in
Brazil).
I don't like or dislike Microsoft products. In fact I use a lot of them in
several circunstances. I don't like the "why or why not" kind of discussion.
Anyways, my point is: what a company uses or not is a problem between the
owners, the company management, the customers and the law.
About Windows NT, it is really cool for what it was first intended to: to be a
server for small LANs in small businesses. In this field there are no
quenstions about this product merit. It was not intended to run
mission critic applications in large networks and in this field it performs,
lets say, not so well.
About using Windows NT as firewall platform, I'd say that it was not intended
for this purpose. It has intrinsic shortcomings, wich are well documented and
even accepted as facts by Microsoft people, that make it unsuitable to be used
as firewall for large or mission critic networks.
About the design, I don't agree with you about the "niceties" of NT
architecture. Anyways, it is not the case of discussing it in this
forum.
