I have been on this mailing list for a while and was the person who started a monstrous discussion due to a DCOM problem I've got here. Anyway, what I am trying to find out are NT networks being hacked. Do any of you have direct experience with someone breaking into your network and either destroying it or causing you/your company untold thousands of dollars in damages? I'm not asking about problems like "Melissa" but situations like someone tapping into the PDC and hacking the user and server databases or actually stealing SQL type data. I guess you could say I'm doing my own low level "risk assessment" to better help the company avoid problems as they begin developing apps to run on the Internet. There is just so much hype from FW vendors, virus vendors (oops, Freudian slip) and "protect my network at all costs" zealots that I don't have a feel for the real-life problems of using the Internet. I installed the first Internet connection here about 3 years ago and truthfully we've not had any problems directly caused by Internet access other than the occasional crap that'll come through E-Mail. Even Melissa never showed up here. I am very curious to hear of any real-world horror stories especially related to NT networks and possibly financial business. We are an Insurance company with plans to allow agents access to data on the internal network. I have 12,000 internal users and eventually will have 5 T1 connections across the country through the same ISP. I'm trying to avoid using nuclear force to stop a herd of turtles. Thanks. - [To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe firewalls" in the body of the message.]
