FW proxy question

I have setup a few IBM FW v3.3, on PII 450, 256 Mb of RAM.

They are used as proxy servers and access (browsing the net) seems very
slow, are all FW proxy servers supposed to be slow because of the extra
logging it does compare to let's say SOCKS?

Very few users are using them now!
