Hi all, After putting forward the pros and cons of Netmeeting, my company
have put forward a policy on NetMeeting through our
firewalls and I was wondering what comments it'd draw on here.

:
1) The H.323 protocol for audio and video conferencing is very complex and
cannot be securely firewalled. So aside from any bandwidth concerns, we
should not use it for security reasons.

2) The T.120 protocol is used for text messaging and application sharing.
We will allow this access for *outbound* only. This means we can join
NetMeeting servers on the Internet but they cannot join servers inside our
networks. This also means we can view and share applications on servers on
the Internet, but they cannot share ours.

3) The ULS and ILS protocols are used for querying directory servers on the
Internet to facilitate finding other users. This access outbound only to
query servers on the Internet should be safe as well.

(Chris Shenton - thanks for your reply to my previous mail on FW-1 and
making available your NASA paper on NetMeeting.)

Thanks for any views or recommendations,

Very best, Tony
