there is no sure way to find this out. an easy example is just
cutting the tx pin on a utp cable, then the sniffer will be totally
"transparent". you could try tools like the new one from
www.l0pht.com - but it may give you false negatives and a false
sense of security.
anyway, over a switched network a sniffer isn't worth all that much,
except for broadcast traffic.
