Hi,
Well, just being a little narrow, if we speak only about protecting some
services from attacks in a rather cheap or/and easy way, yes, it's worth
installing a software-based firewall for example.
Personally, I have installed IPF 3.2.10 on Solaris 2.6 PC and it works fine,
anyhow i think that any serious protection has to rely on other devices
than this, surely some big box to filter packets, along with as much
encription as possible, we should never forget that the worst danger may
always come from the inside than the outside.
