Hi,
There is an open source system that consists of a few
different parts, but its all free!!
you will need:
1. apache web server http://www.apache.org/
be sure to get 'mod_php'. Optionally get
'mod_ssl' if you would like somewhat secure
connections.
2. php3 scripting language http://www.php.net/
be sure to get php3 (not php4)!!
3. an IMAP mail server (Washington U. or Cyrus will
work.
http://www.washington.edu/imap/ or
http://asg.web.cmu.edu/cyrus/download/
4. most important, the Horde and Imp library for PHP3.
this is what actually implements the webmail
interface. Get it at:
http://www.horde.org/
You should probably set things up in the order that I
have listed them here, but visit the Horde page first to
get an overview of the system and see if it is what you
want. It works very well, and best of all, everything
listed here is 100% FREE. It took me about 8hrs to get
everything downloaded, setup and fine tuned. My
specialty is not sys-admin, so it may take you less
