That's not true, because the drives had to be configured to 1 or 2.  They
came factory default as 1.  In order to daisy chain them, and allow them to
work together, you had to cut a trace in one of the drives, which would make
it 2.
The Radio Shack geeks like myself would then add a toggle switch which would
allow the drive to be either 1 or 2, you know, in case the first one died.  

But I do remember that syntax well,8,1.  I believe the syntax for the tape
drive (as in data stored on an audio cassette <grin>) was ,6
