I think anyone will say that any network connectivity without security precations
is foolish. In the case of DSL, the target market seems to be the home pc user.
This opens up a huge can of worms since the average user knows little about networking,
and security, therefore many times, unwittingly leaving files open for the taking.
A firewall would be beneficial to that user because it creates a higher level of
frustration
for the would-be cracker. Unless the user is some VERY important person, the cracker
will
move on to some other non-suspecting, non-protected user.
Just a thought (or two),
Randy
