how much checking do you do for e-mail and floppys? about the only way I
could see the pilot being a virus risk is if the person loads infected
e-mail on it from home, syncs it to the office machine, and then views it
using one of the microsoft buggy mail programs (Ok, not _all_ of the bugs
have been in microsoft programs, but youknow what I mean). The other stuff
on the pilot is not executed by the machines you are syncing to. A pilot
makes a very poor means to transfer files compared to floppies and a
person would have to work a bit to hurt things much.`
One thing you could do is to buy them and state that they are for work use
only and should only use hotsync with the office machines. this will limit
things slightly, but is this an acceptable compramise?
Another possibility would be to have the policy state that they cannot
sync mail to the pilot, that would eliminate the most likly path for
problems (and a pilot is a lousy mail machine, I have one that I use for
everything else but that)
