May be off topic...tftp

Hi Gurus,
    Please don't fire me as I know that it may be off topic.

Whenever I do a tftp or ftp I time out, I was wondering what could be
the possible reasons ?
( And is there any way out to verify or know the reason of timeout )

I am working on Solaris.

Any comments/suggestions welcomed.
