Tia, It is possible in some switches to have a node belong to more than one VLAN. This sounds like what you are trying to accomplish. I know most products on the market today do support these types of configurations. I have been evaluating a 3Com Corebuilder 9000 switch, and it will do this (although I do not think the predecessor CB5K would do this). Likewise I am sure that Cisco, Nortel, Alcatel (formerly Xylan), etc. all have boxes that will do this. I had some older Xylans that did, so I'm sure the newer Alcatel OmniSwitches do. > ------------------------------ > > Date: Wed, 8 Mar 2000 12:33:12 +0530 > From: netcomm <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: layer 2 switch > > hi > > this is in continuation to my previous question of multiple ip addresses > assigned to an interface on solaris > thanx for the info > ...if we r having multiple addresses on one interface...how we can make it > talk to different networks corresponding to each ip address the interface > has.....i wish to use this in a switch environment ( LAN) using VLANs. > but searchin for some info on global VLAN, > in layer 2 switch one port can belong to one VLAN, > now say i have layer 2 switch with 24 ports and 23 ports belong to 23 > differnet configured VLANS and 24th port i wish to belong to global VLAN > ie should be able to talk to 23 VLANs .
