Erwin's post re-addresses the outsourced solution debate that has been waged
before, and continues to draw input from both sides. Personally, I believe
if you can find a provider that you feel comfortable with, why not...
besides, in most cases, they are far and a way less expensive than if you
had to hire and train a staff to provide the same 24x7 coverage. Plus there
is an expectation of a certain level of competency of the people performing
the service.
As the corporate world reluctantly is drawn into expending funds to protect
their assets, and they raise the level in which their business depends on
the Internet as a means of not only communicating, but also in providing
global market penetration, you will see the need for trained security
personnel become even more critical than what it is today. And we all know
that it is extremely difficult to find experienced personnel. When you do,
you had better have deep pockets and lots of ink in the pen.
No matter how good the tools, and widgets that hit the market become, the
need for a human to provide analysis, and judgement will remain. Remember
experience is nothing more than learning from your mistakes. And that
experience costs real dollars. Many .coms may not survive the learning
period.
The Internet explosion has changed the old paradigm, and those that cannot
shed the skin of doing it the "old way" will be buried. I am way too old to
be considered Gen-X, but you have to admire the way they get things done...
Learn or Lose I guess..
