What version of Solaris are you planning to install your firewall on??
Commercial firewalls have yet to be ported to Solaris 7 or Solaris 8.
Firewall vendors have yet to release their versions of their products for
Linux.
Checkpoint and Axent are rapidly working on the Linux versions of their
firewalls have not been released yet.
Your best best for low overhead is to choose an Firewall appliance. There
are lots of choices and colors to choose from, pick 3 and evaluate them
thoroughly before purchasing.
/hope this helps

Subject: Re: Solaris Firewall Solution
Many thanks to everyone who has responded to my query.
However, judging by some of the replies I have received, I believe
I was rather vague in my original post (below).
As I said we are running Solaris on a Sun Sparc, but we do not intend
to place the firewall on this machine as I may have led you to believe.
This machine will be upgraded to the latest version of Solaris at some
stage.
The machine is situated in a webfarm which has a 10 baseT ethernet 45-65Mb
connection (I think). We are hoping to add an additional dedicated box.
This machine will most likely run Linux, although it does not have to.
However, we are not adverse to a hardware solution of some sort ie.
router.
We will be allowing web access obviously and restricted telnet access by
IP
among others.
As you have no doubt gathered I am no firewall expert and I will be
working
with others in setting this up.
Thanks again,
Paul
