Could be a problem in their makefile, and within the pkgadd routine for
that particular module ???
One recommendation is to disable root logins except from the console, and
add a selected user to the wheel or bin group, if the pkg routine requires
that you must be root to install, call the vendor and log a support ticket
to modify the pkg add routine in order for designated users in the wheel
or bin group to be able to install or the other method is to install sudo.
Log in as the designated user then sudo, then run the install routine.
Root is a very powerful user.

A simpler answer is have you tried removing the directory manually (i.e
change directory up to the parent directory, type rmdir <directory name>)
and then try again. Another method is to look for a pkg clean or
makeclean routine which backs out what ever you tried to install in the
first place.

Not having played with CyberGuard x for quite some time, it is very hard
to troubleshoot your problem and only being provided some semblance of the
symptoms you are observing.

/hope this helps anyways.

/m

Ok, my problem is that I can not (for some odd reason) install .pkg files
on my system. I keep getting errors saying that it can't delete a
directory. The error is below...

--------------------------------
Processing:
Package: gcc (gcc) from </opt/gcc.pkg>.

gcc
(i386) Version 2.7.2.2
Using </> as the package base directory.
UX:pkginstall: ERROR: unable to remove directory
</var/tmp/dstreAAAa0003n/gcc> and it's contents

Installation of gcc (gcc) failed (internal error).
No changes were made to the system.
--------------------------------

Now, I am trying to install from the maintenance level as ROOT. I also
tried as NETWORK, and still received the same error. I'm not sure what I
may be doing wrong.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Kaye
