iptables and linux 24 kernel

Hi,

I'm interested in implementing iptables/netfilter as a firewall for a
small network with internet access. Is it true I need the 2.4 kernel to
implement this? How do I get the 2.4 kernel, and how do I install it on
a RedHat 6.1
system currently running the 2.2.12 kernel?
