I know of a couple that almost do what you want and if you don't
pay close attention to the salesmen and ask the right questions you might
be deceived into thinking they do what you want. Most of the virus scanners
for Exchange work by scanning the message after they arrive in the mailbox,
not "as they arrive on the server"? We've had one virus scanner fall flat
on it's face because it couldn't keep up with Melissa as it began to spread
and flood more and more mailboxes on a 1000 user Exchange system. As the
scanner fell further and further, more and more users were able to read
their E-Mail before the scanner got to them, thus spreding the virus
further.

In this case, the scanner actually contributed to the infestation
because everybody "knew" we had a scanner, so the message just "couldn't
be" infected or the scanner would have stopped it.

We've since added ingress and outgress filtering on all E-Mail done
on a Unix host were we can do proper mail filtering.

My point... No matter what you get in response from this list or
other sources, check to make sure that it really does scan the messages
before they are deposited in the mailbox and then doublecheck, because
you will be told that it does, when in fact it doesn't.
