If you were using dsl or cable modem i'd advise you to check out
http://www.sonicwall.com/, it's a simple, basic firewall. A lot of people
take an old computer, and install unix on it.
For example I use FreeBSD, ppp -nat, and a combination of tcpwrappers, and
ipfw for filtering. A local nameserver, chrooted, to minimize network
traffic. From the outside only ports 23, 21, 22 and 53 are open.
Behind that box i have my other computers, such as a few win98 boxes.
